What are the benefits for subscribers?
IMfree is an inexpensive way to communicate instantly with friends, family or colleagues at the touch of a button, instead of initiating a mobile call. This comes in very handy for touching base throughout the day for both business and personal communications that do not require lengthy conversing. Users have all the benefits standard Internet applications such as the ability to define user groups, view the status of users in their defined groups, and conduct instantaneous multi-user sessions without setting up a conference call.
Can IMfree run on any mobile network?
IMfree two-way radio sessions can be conducted over any packet-based network such as GPRS, UMTS or WiFi by leveraging the 'always-on' functionality of these infrastructures.
Can IMfree run on any mobile device?
IMfree works on any packet-based wireless device such as GPRS, UMTS or WiFi handsets. It can also be downloaded to non-legacy mobile devices with open architectures such as Symbian™, BREW™, WinCE™ and the iPAQ™ PDA.
Can any two IMfree-enabled users establish a cross- network IMfree session?
That's the beauty of IMfree. Since IP protocols are fully transparent users can conduct cross-network VoIP sessions just like they conduct regular mobile calls between networks - transparently. This means that any two IMfree-enabled devices that are provided by different carriers can communicate directly with each other even if one is connected to a CDPD network, and the other is connected to a GPRS network.
Can subscribers conduct international and roaming IMfree sessions?
Whether users are calling from their home network, or roaming around the world, they can conduct instant push-to-talk sessions with their peers based on existing coverage plans. IMfree comes in handy for both local and international sessions, and is a much more cost-effective means of communication than conducting regular mobile calls.
Does IMfree support unicast and multicast sessions?
Subscribers can conduct one-to-one and one-to-many sessions with numerous participants in and outside of their predefined user groups.
Does implementation require a major network overhaul?
Not at all. IMfree is a stand-alone solution that does not require any infrastructure changes in the provider's network. An optional conferencing feature does require a brief integration process. Wireless LAN operations can implement their own private networks without being dependent on carriers.
What else can the technology be used for?
IMfree can also be used for instant push-to-send messaging instead of creating an e-mail or SMS message and attaching relevant information. This is especially relevant for high-level security and medical operations where instantly relaying urgent information could mean the difference between life and death.
